BEHIND THE LENS
I’m Caio Sanfelice, a photographer, visual artist, and the person behind Caio Sanfelice Studio, a London-based creative hub, specialised in portrait, editorial, and fine art photography.
What I do sits somewhere between many artistic forms, but for me it’s always about people and how they see themselves, how they want to be seen, and how identity can be expressed through image. A lot of my work explores identity, queerness, and representation, especially around male and immigrant subjects, which is something I feel is still limited and often stereotyped.
My studio is more than just a place to shoot. I’m building it as a creative hub where different things can happen, such as photoshoots, collaborations, workshops, and conversations. I like being involved in the full process, from the initial idea to the final image, whether that’s helping with styling, building props, directing, or retouching. I’ve always worked in a very hands-on, multidisciplinary way, and that’s something I want the studio to reflect.
Alongside client work, my fine art practice is a big part of what I do. These projects often deal with political and social themes, using photography mixed with materials like collage or gold leaf to create something more physical and layered. It’s not always commercial, but it’s essential to how I think and create.
I’ve been lucky to have my work featured in publications like Vogue Italia, Dazed Magazine, Attitude, Boys Magazine, and Vanity Teen, but what matters most to me is building something sustainable and meaningful, both as a business and as a space for others. Especially for people who, like me, come from queer and immigrant backgrounds and don’t always see themselves reflected or supported in the industry.
This is still growing, still evolving, and that’s the point.
